Flexibel PolyEster (FPE) is a high-tech material which combines several properties like strength, flexibility and temperature resistance in one material. Best of all: it is printable as well. FPE has high layer-to-layer adhesion.

General

FPE flexible polyester filament is a thermoplastic elastomer; as such it combines the easy process of a thermoplastic (like PLA or ABS) with the elasticity of a rubber. Especially the elasticity and strength are unique in 3D printing material. FPE is often compared with Soft-PLA, but FPE has much higher thermal resistance (glass transition temperature of 95 °C)

Temperature and printing guidelines

For successful printing correct temperature settings are essential and it is even more true for FPE. The material properties of FPE are shown in the table below and are fairly similar to apart from the glass transition temperature. Due to the flexibility and the "rubberyness" of this material it takes more effort with bowden cable 3D printers to get proper results.

• Glass transition temperature: 90 °C
• Melting temperature: 158 °C
• Nozzle temperature: 205-215 °C
• Heated bed temperature: 100 °C

Use them as a starting point, optimal values for your specific printer may vary from the values shown above, depending on e.g. nozzle diameter, printing speed and layer height.
